My Grandma introduced me to these when I was a young lad. It was the colour that initially put me off but she said 'go on, try a piece'. So I did, and discovered that it was not only the colour but also the taste that permanently put me off them for a lifetime!
Conclusion: Bizarre colour = Bizarre taste? No, I guess this is one of those fruits you either really like or really dislike. Strange really as I used to eat mouthfuls at a time of pomegranate, which the youngsters of today usually find revolting!
I haven't seen one that red in a long time. The last one I had was more pink than red
Kevin: yes, they can taste rather sour. As I've got older, I find I like things less sweet, and the blood oranges we've had, have been delicious.
LOM: yes, they are a deep red colour ... ideal for vampires.
