Football and our cats

I was in Tesco Metro yesterday lunchtime, which
was very busy around the tills, but almost
deserted like the Marie Celeste, in the wine
and beer section at the back of the shop. I said
to the sole shelf-stacker, "It's very peaceful
here, isn't it?" "Yes," she replied, "all the
men will be at home watching the Cup Final!"
With hindsight I think that was a sexist remark,
as a lot of women would have done the same.
I switched on the TV later in the afternoon, in
time to see the last 15 minutes of the second
half and the penalty shoot-out, plus lots of
action re-plays of the earlier goals. Fantastic
play.

I've enjoyed having the company of our two cats
while Mrs C's been away. They are very friendly,
but rather shy of strangers. I took a couple of
photos of them on the top floor of our house
(the warmest part of the house). The first one
is of Slayer, who was sitting in a fairly dark
corner - I was near the top of the stairs with
my camera at carpet-level. She had distanced
herself from the camera (I don't think she
likes the red focussing light). Her sister Miss
D is not so camera-shy, but by this time was
snoozing in her high-tech cat bed (obtained from
Lidl nearby). It's funny how cats love to sleep
in cardboard boxes, even squeezing themselves
into small ones, rather than kip on the carpet.

Do you like cats?

They are beautifully-coloured, Justin. I once had a cat who liked to sit in my wastepaper basket. It was a tall and flimsy thing, so I have no idea how he got in and out without tipping it over. He did have long legs, though!

Oh! they are indeed lovely
creatures, and the box from
Lidl is ever so comfy.
Lidl is a great household
name in Germany (quite often
we drive out to do some
shopping)
When you mentioned the name,
I was surprised.
Pardon me, is that new in
the UK? (our visit to Eng-
land is long over due, ha ha)
Another great store is Marks
& Spencer, but did you know
in SA the very same store is
called Woolworths?.

It's definitely a cat's life! I can imagine those cats being fed little bits of smoked salmon that missed going into the smoked salmon salad.

Andrea: yes, we think their colour is gorgeous. I've seen Miss D squeeze herself in a box about half that size.
DF: I reckon there's been a Lidl store in the Nottm area for over 10 years now (near the Chilwell Barracks for those of you who know Nottm) - we love the Premium ground coffee, in the red packets - about half the cost of Tesco's Finest.
RN: I'm sorry to say that I ate up all the little bits... with Miss D staring at me. Well, she's got her tasty Iams chicken-flavoured nibbles to eat.
