French kisssing

Carrying on from yesterday's theme, as regards what's acceptable
behaviour in public, how do you feel when you see a couple French
kissing say in a shopping centre, or a couple kissing when lying
down in a park?

During my short time at Guildford Tech back in the 60s, when I was
doing Zoology A level again (to improve my grade), I witnessed a
couple of fellow students having a good snog, just outside the
classroom door. They seemed to be totally engrossed in what they
were doing, almost making a meal of it.

I rather fancied the girl, though not the lad, who was even more
weedy than I was. He must have had a lot of charm and a better way
with women than me. I've always been socially inept, as regards
getting any conversation going with new people ... so I was never
any good at chatting up girls.

I went into the classroom, followed straightaway by the Biology
teacher, who was an assertive spinster in her late 50s. Shortly
after she started the lesson, in walked the couple looking rather
embarrassed.

The teacher said in an loud and angry voice ....
"THERE'S A TIME AND PLACE FOR EVERYTHING!"

I sometimes think about a scene in "Red Dwarf", when Lister (played
by Craig Charles) was kissing a beautiful alien woman. The scene
then flashed to another showing that he was in fact snogging a giant
bug. Very funny.

Back in my teens I often used to wonder myself how the ugly looking fella, who could only communicate with an 'uhh' and a shrug of the shoulders, could attract such good looking girls. Then in later years I started to realise why, as apart from her looks she had even far less to offer than he had!

I've never been a fan of Red Dwarf as to me it verged on the border between humour and just plain silliness. But my goodness there's some classic scenes in there, including that one!

I'm not keen on sci-fi film or comedy ~ I became bored with watching Dr Who and Star Trek, but enjoyed watching the Terminator series. Our girls were very keen on Red Dwarf, and I grew to like it with time, as I got to know the zany characters.

I liked Red Dwarf when it was written by the two writers.

Also, I find french kissing quite a turn on, watching others do it I mean.

Also also, why do you think people close their eyes? To imaging they're not kissing a giant bug.

Hi Max ... I tend to go a bit cross-eyed if I look at someone very close-up. :)

So I gather that neither of you would have liked Blake's 7, by Terry Nation, which is my all-time TV sci-fi favourite? It was at least as silly as the rest of them yet still managed to get me on the edge of my seat. And it was rather off-putting to me when the co-star suddenly appeared in Emmerdale recently!

Oh, and with me being so short-sighted without my spectacles I prefer to view things very very close up!

Oh, I loved Blake 7. My favourite character was Avon and Paul Darrow was in Emmerdale recently and lifted the show tenfold. As he did for B7.

I saw George Cole in UFO on ITV4 a few weeks ago and it he/it was brilliant. So serious and claustrophic. He cared for the baddie and goodie in equal measure.

(Sorry for the typos - I'm playing a room escape game at the same time)

Paul Darrow - that's him! I'd forgotten his name. A naturally slow talker yet so articulate (and so chilling in Blake's 7).

Sorry, guys, but I didn't see any episodes of Blake 7.

It was odd, J, 'cos Blake wasn't in it for a series or two and Avon was cap'n. Yet they kept the title even though the title-character weren't in it, like a Scottish cop show I mean't mention.

In the last reel of the last series Blake returned, and everyone got shot. But I'm not sure about Avon. I think he might've turned traitor/baddie.
