Djanogly Art Gallery

Today, Mrs C and I went to Nottm University's
art gallery to see an exhibition of paintings
all about recreational activities in the 1930s.
Overall, I was very impressed - there were some
fine paintings, and in the background the
gallery played some 1930's popular music to
create some atmosphere.
The exhibition closes on April 9th, by the way.
Harold Williamson painted the above picture,
entitled "Spray", in 1940. The original picture
is more brightly coloured as you'd expect, with
more natural skin tones.
You might be able to see the Renoir-like nude
in the distance on my photo below - it was
painted by Dod Proctor in 1934, who named it
"The Orchard". Initially I thought the artist
had used pastels, (in the style of Renoir), but
she created that effect with oil paints thinly
applied to the canvas. A fabulous painting.
(Click on this photo to enlarge it, and click
also on the next photo, on the small square
button that might appear at the bottom right
hand corner of it).

Glad to see the 'expressions & sayings' index was of some use. Nice choice. Could I humbly suggest you move the 'Every Cloud' text up just a tad? and consider a tiny drop shadow to the right/down, perhaps in light blue? or perhaps the text itself in an ever so slightly lighter shade of blue, without a drop shadow... and cheekily going the whole hog... the rest of the saying and its origin in your profile?? just my 2 cents worth... grin. Cool bird-in-the-garden shots by the way. Am experimenting with 'burst mode' here...repeated shots as long as you hold the shutter down. Needs a resonably fast memory card to store the shots though.I found it great at our balloon fiesta recently. Fire away, and choose the best 'flame from the burners' pic...

Thanks, edt, for your help. I love your photos - I'm very impressed. I did try a few rapid bursts when taking shots of the pheasant, as it was moving around a lot. I'm thinking about buying a book on how to use this camera properly (one by Charlotte Lowrie on the Digital Rebel), and one or two of Lee Frost's books on aspects of photography. Also one by Bryan Peterson on "Understanding Exposure", that was recommended in another website (In Photo).
As regards the blog title, I thought one about rambling would be more humorous and apt, so I checked out several variations on the title on Google to find something original.
I've tried out variations on colour, type, size and blending style of font, and think black Verdana looks the best. The print with paler colours looked great in Photoshop, but fuzzy when published in Blogger. So, I'll stick with this appearance for the time being... until I get fed up with it.
